Reading FC’s winning run was ended as they were defeated by Steve Evans’ Rotherham United side who turned the game around from a goal down to take the points.

Free-kick specialist Lewis Wing put the royals in front with a stunning strike before two quickfire goals after the break gave the Millers the advantage.

Ruben Selles made just one change from the midweek win over Burton Albion as Kelvin Abrefa replace 16-year-old Andre Garcia at left-back.

It was the hosts who had the best of the play for the opening 20 minutes, but without being able to forge out any good chances.

The Royals went in front with 26 minutes on the clock through a Lewis Wing special as he bagged his first goal of the campaign.

The midfield maestro lined up a free-kick from 20 yards and despite opting to go for the keeper’s side, he struck it with too much power for Cameron Dawson to keep it out as he could only tip it onto the post on its way in.

Shortly after going ahead, Selles was forced into a change as Abrefa had to go off with an injury and was replaced by Garcia.

Rotherham’s best opportunity to get level came when Jonson Clarke-Harris headed powerfully at goal, but David Button was equal to it and made a superb stop to push the ball away.

The home fans were beginning to get increasingly frustrated as Reading went into the break a goal to the good.

The Millers levelled up quickly after the restart when Sam Nombe was first to connect with a cross to the near post and diverted the ball past Button.

The game had been turned on its head as Rotherham completed their turnaround to go 2-1 in front.

Button failed to deal with a floated cross to the back post, and despite his protestations for a foul, Hakeem Odoffin nodded the ball in and the goal stood.

The momentum had swung drastically and Button had to pull off an impressive stop to prevent Nombe from making it 3-1 just moments later.

Things went from bad to worse for the Royals as Kelvin Ehibhationmhan was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card for clashing with a Rotherham player.

After going down to 10, Selles made a double hange as Jayden Wareham and Charlie Savage replaced Chem Campbell and Ben Elliott.

Despite fighting with a player less, the Royals were unable to find anything to get themselves back into the game and were defeated.

Reading are in action on Tuesday night away to Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy before the international break.
