MORE than £7,000 was raised for charity during a special golf day held earlier this month.
Members of the The Rotary of Reading Maiden Erlegh organised teams for the event held at Sonning Golf Club.
There were 23 teams and 92 players – a record for the event.
Organisers said the weather was perfect and the course in excellent condition.
The winners were the Bradfield College Renegades, captained by John Hammond.
In the evening, there was a dinner compered by the golfing comedian Adger Brown. They also ran a charity auction which featured items donated by golf clubs and businesses in the area.
More than £7,000 was raised for Rotary-supported charities, with the majority going to the Rotary’s Community Food Aid programme which supports local food banks, churches, and families.
More than £20,000 has been donated to these causes by the club since the pandemic.
The event was sponsored by FPP (Financial Planning Partners).
Richard Nicholson, President of the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh, said: “It was a superb way to raise money for our programme.
“Everyone really enjoyed a great day and gave generously to all the fundraising activities.
“We are grateful for the support of so many local businesses and especially Sonning Golf Club.”
The Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh serves the communities in East and South Reading including Sonning, Wargrave and Twyford. It meets on Tuesday evenings at various locations.
