A NEW literary festival is coming to Reading celebrating literacy with a series of events across town–including some of the UK’s most celebrated authors.

Fourbears Books has launched a series of events and talks by authors, poets, and educators for its inaugural three-day Fourbears Festival.

It kicks off on Thursday, May 17, with Wine with Words, where attendees can taste different wines and discuss their favourite books.

Friday also sees a comic book workshop at Caversham Baptist Church, led by writer and illustrator Niell Cameron.

Cameron is best known for his work as the creator of the Mega Robo Bros series of graphic novels.

On Saturday, children’s autor Holly Webb, who lives in Reading, will give a talk about her series, Animal Stories.

Celebrated Reading poet AF Harrold will also bring stories, poems, and comedy to Caversham Baptist Church.

Comedian, actor, and author Robin Ince, co-host of The Infinite Monkey Cage podcast, will give a talk at Progress Theatre.

There will also be a live recording of the Let’s Get Lit podcast, hosted by Before I Go To Sleep author SJ Watson and Psychopaths Anonymous author Will Carver.

Poets from Two Rivers Press will give readings from their most recent publications, including Claire Dyer, John Froy and Susan Utting.

As well as a sci-fi panel, the event will also see talks from Peter Stothard, Michelle Harrison, James Carter, Maxine Nwaneri, Laura Shepherd-Robinson, and EL Norry.

Fourbears Festival takes place in venues around Reading from Friday-Sunday, May 17-19.
