Roadworks are coming to create a new cycling route between Woodley and Reading.
Planning for a new cycling route between Woodley town centre and Palmer Park in East Reading has been years in the making.
Now the route is becoming a reality, as work has started to create two segregated cycle lanes this month.
The project, which is being undertaken by Wokingham Borough Council’s highways contractors, began on Monday, March 9, in Woodlands Avenue between Roslyn Road and Lytham Road.
This work will be completed on Monday, March 16.
Once that has happened, a closure will be in place in the western portion of Woodlands Avenue.
A council Facebook post states: “We’re about to finish building the first section of our active travel route from Woodley town centre to Palmer Park in Reading.
“From next Monday, March 16, the road closure is moving west along Woodlands Avenue between Roslyn Road and Woodwaye.
“The Woodlands Avenue works will run until mid-August, with additional works to be confirmed on Church Road and Culver Lane.
“The finished route includes cycle tracks separated from both the pavement and the road.
“It’s being funded by the Department for Transport as part of our long-term vision for improving the borough’s walking and cycling links.”
Drivers will be diverted via open sections of Woodlands Avenue, Howth Drive, Beechwood Avenue and Lytham Road.
The borough council received £3 million to deliver the Woodley to Reading Active Travel route from the previous Conservative government.
