READING Repertory Theatre has announced the cast for its upcoming winter production, The Snow Queen.

The company is bringing the adaptation of Anna Wheatley’s play, based on the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, back to the stage with an all-Reading cast.

Founding artistic director Paul Stacy returns to direct alongside performers Mark Desebrock as Kai, Niall Kiely as Bae, Orla O’Sullivan as Gerda, and Charlotte Warner as Ragna.

Each of the actors will also be portraying multiple characters in the production, with Desebrock, O’Sullivan, and Warner following on from their run of performances as part of the theatre’s first repertory company last year.

They’ll be joined by Chris Cuming as associate director, Matthew Forbes as puppetry designer and director, Liz Johnson of Promotional Props and Costumes as puppet builder, and Libby Todd as set and costume designer.

Rounding out the creative team is Abi Turner as lighting designer, Joe Dines as sound designer, Libby Ward as video designer, Hazel McIntosh as costume supervisor, Jordan Harris as production manager, Megan Powell as stage manager, and Mia Taylor as assistant stage manager.

The Snow Queen follows the efforts of Gerda to find her best friend, Kai, as she battles the snowy wastelands ruled over by The Snow Queen, where she encounters bandits and wildlife while facing some of her darkest fears.

Paul Stacey, Founding Artistic Director of Reading Rep Theatre said, “A timeless classic that promises to enchant audiences of all ages and continues the cherished tradition of starting your Christmas at Reading Rep.

“We believe in the power of theatre to bring people together, and what better time to do so than during the festive season.

“The Snow Queen is a beloved intergenerational story that captures the imagination and reminds us of the importance of love, friendship, and the magic of the holidays.”

Nick Thompson, the theatre’s Executive Director, said: “Our Christmas shows over the last three years have fast become a festive, family tradition.

“Grab your tickets while you can, we expect another sold out season.”

The Snow Queen is showing at Reading Repertory Theatre from Friday, November 29, to Tuesday, December 31.
