Reading’s quirkiest charity tradition hit a new milestone today as the 2025 Reading Duck Race drew record crowds to The Oracle Riverside – and, for the first time, completely sold out of ducks ahead of the main event.
All 5,000 ducks were snapped up by racegoers, making it the biggest race in the event’s three-year history.
Around 4,000 people turned out along the Kennet & Avon Canal to watch the bright yellow flotilla take to the water in the name of charity, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere.
Crowds cheered as the rubber racers bobbed their way toward the finish line, each hoping to claim the £200 top prize, which this year went to lucky duck No. 3844.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Reading Abbey with support from The Oracle, the event continues to grow as a much-loved fixture in the town’s calendar.
Beyond the race itself, the day featured family entertainment, face painting and a chance for the public to meet some of the local organisations benefiting from the funds raised.
Final fundraising totals are still being counted.
