A BAR in Reading played host to a double helping of punk with tributes to two of the UK’s biggest bands.
Face Bar in the town centre saw a double bill of riotous rock with Reading’s own Remones performing alongside boisterous five-piece, Sex P*ssed Dolls, on Saturday, November 25.
Remones clattered onto the stage with their usual aplomb, donning leather jackets and jeans, dropping immediately into their cover of Durango.
They followed up swiftly with I’m Against It and Take the Pain Away.
They performed with the brashness and belligerence that punk demands, especially as the moved breathlessly into Beat the Brat and crowd-favourite Sheena is a Punk Rocker.
Particular highlights of the set, which included an eye-watering 22 songs of the Ramones’ catalogue, included a blistering rendition of Rockaway Beach, Teenage Lobotomy, and Bonzo Goes to Bitburg.
Smash hits Blitzkrieg Bop, Pet Semetary, and Chinese Rocks were among the liveliest of their covers, and the set closed with an assured triplet of We’re a Happy Family, Surfin’ Bird, and Don’t Bust My Chops.
After a short pause, the Sex P*ssed Dolls took to the stage in characteristic irreverance.
Lead vocalist Nancy Doll appeared in classic red and black stripes, complete with ponytails and a red tartan cap..
Their set included a number of original songs, as well as a particularly exciting cover of Blondie’s Hanging on the Telephone.
Further highlights included a flawless cover of Holiday in Cambodia by Dead Kennedys, and punk anthem I Fought the Law by The Clash, which saw the lead vocalist throwing herself around on stage.
After a particularly high-energy cover of Psycho Killer by Talking Heads brought the event to a crescendo, the band signed off and brought the event to a close.
