A READING MP is has taken up a position in the Deprtment for Education following the government reshuffle.
Olivia Bailey, MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire, has been selected for a number of new roles following Prime Minister Starmer’s swathe of reappointments.
Ms Bailey was selected to succeed Janet Daby in her role as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, a junior ministerial position in the Department for Education.
She was also selected as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities, succeeding Nia Griffith.
Elsewhere in the reshuffle, David Lammy succeeded Deputy Prime Minister Angela Raynor, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was moved to Foreign Secretary, with previous Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood replacing her as Home Secretary.
Pat McFadden has been selected as Work and Pensions Secretary, Peter Kyle as Business and Trade Secretary, and Steve Reed was moved to Housing.
Ms Bailey described her appointments as a “great honour” but said she would continue her commitment to “work[ing] tirelessly” for those in her constituency.
