READING MP Olivia Bailey has called for better deals for leaseholders amid rising service charges and poor service.
In November last year, residents of a number of new build estates in the UK were receiving poor service from property management company FirstPort.
The government followed up with the announcement that the leaseholding system in the UK would be overhauled before the end of the current parliament.
This week a meeting in Parliament covered cases of ‘obscenely’ high service chargeds, poor maintenance and bad communication from managing agents.
These included examples from Reading West and Mid Berkshire, which were put to FirstPort CEO Martin King.
Olivia Bailey, MP said: “A number of residents in Reading West and Mid Berkshire have contacted me about dreadful service and poor value for money from FirstPort.
“I am pleased that the FirstPort CEO acknowledged that they had often failed to deliver to the standards that leaseholders should expect and would take action on the issues that that residents have raised.
“Along with the other Labour MPs who have signed the letter to FirstPort, I will be holding them to account for these promises.”
FirstPort manages more than 300,000 properties in the UK.
