READING FC will be hoping to build upon their long wait for an away win when they host Carlisle United on Tuesday.

The Royals finally won an away match in the league on Saturday by beating Wycombe Wanderers, their first win on the road since November 2022.

Reading have the chance to cut the gap on the sides above them in the table.

Ruben Selles’ side are currently bottom of the League One table after 17 matches, but could climb above Carlisle if they defeat them and win their game in hand.

The Cumbrians have also endured a difficult start to the season and have managed to pick up just 15 points from 18 games with three wins, six draws and nine defeats.

Carlisle picked up a point at the weekend as they came from a goal behind to draw with Charlton Athletic.

Jordan Gibson currently leads the way in the scoring charts for Carlisle this campaign with five goals in 18 games.

Reading and Carlise last met more than 40 years ago in Division Three in May 1982.

That contest ended in a 2-2 draw, while Reading’s last win against Carlisle came a year prior in 1981 with a 3-1 victory at Elm Park.

Predicted Reading line-up: Button, Yiadom, Abbey, Bindon, Dorsett, Craig, Wing, Knibbs, Azeez, Ehibhatiomhan, Smith
