THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has placed 169 equal, out of 1,500 institutions, in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
A growing reputation among businesses and employers, and an increase in average research citations have helped propel Reading up 60 places from last year.
The University is the 26th highest-ranked UK university in the revamped league table, which places new emphasis on sustainability.
Reading ranked 189th globally in this category, in-keeping with its commitment to support environmental sustainability and to be a force for positive social change.
Prof Robert Van de Noort, vice-chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “Since our foundation nearly a century ago, we have been a truly global university.
“I’m pleased that in this new assessment we are recognised as among the best universities in the world for our research and that our reputation among businesses and academics is growing.
“With influence comes responsibility, and I am pleased to see this new league table reflecting our mission to bring about real change on social and environmental issues.
“Universities have a lot to offer the world and can bring great benefits to local communities. We are committed to our responsibilities to build partnerships and develop new ideas.”
With campuses in Europe, Africa and Asia, Reading’s students and academic staff are from more than 140 countries.
The top 200 position follows improvements in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, which were announced in March, in which Reading saw positive moves across subject areas including Business & Management, Law and Computer Science.
Agriculture continued to be ranked highest subject area among any UK university, with Earth and Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Archaeology all ranked among the 10 highest-ranked UK universities.
