THE UKRAINIAN centre in Reading received a visit today from a former Upper Bucklebury resident.
The visitor met with volunteers helping refugees settle in the area.
On her arrival, Kate Middleton, was given a traditional Ukrainian welcome gift of bread and salt.
The Princess of Wales, who was born in the Royal Berkshire Hospital just over the road from the Sidmouth Street centre, learnt about its activities.
She also took part in a children’s art session.
The Reading Ukrainian Community Centre has become a real hub since Putin’s illegal invasion of our European neighbour.
At the very beginning of the conflict, it organised for aid to be sent out, before helping welcome Ukrainians coming to the UK.
It has coffee mornings on Wednesdays and another session on Saturday afternoons.
Working with Reading Borough Council, it helps run an advice centre out of Reading Central Library, giving support on issues such as the NHS, housing, employment, education, benefits, consumer rights, and immigration.
The centre houses a Reading Ukrainian School, teaching about the country’s culture, language, literature and history to children.
