A project to ‘spruce up’ the ‘unattractive’ front of Reading town centre building has been approved.
It is part of a project to convert Soane Point in Market Place into housing, including an extension that will add 38 flats.
The grey front of the building will be replaced with a mixture of red, beige and grey brick and was agreed in principle by members of the council’s planning committee this January, subject to a section 106 agreement being made This was completed at the end of last month.
Part of S106 agreement is that a total of 11 of 38 apartments should be designated as affordable: five one-bed, five two-bed and one three-bed.
The existing upper floors of Soane Point will be converted into 144 flats, after the government’s planning inspectorate gave approval in May last year.
Once the conversion and extension projects are complete, Soane Point will total 182 apartments.
