A 23-year-old man has been jailed for life for the attempted murder of another man in Reading following a police investigation.
Rashane Odle-Mcleod, from Winnersh, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Monday to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 years and four months.
He was found guilty by a unanimous jury of attempted murder on 23 October and had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place. He was acquitted of perverting the course of justice.
The court heard that on 9 April 2025, Odle-Mcleod went to the Kennet Walk estate armed with a knife, knowing his victim was in the area. He spent several hours waiting before carrying out the attack.
Shortly after 21:00 BST, the victim, a man in his 20s, walked into a dark alley where Odle-Mcleod followed him and launched what prosecutors described as a frenzied attack. The victim was stabbed more than a dozen times across his body and face, with the assault continuing as he lay on the ground.
Odle-Mcleod then searched the victim’s pockets, stole his mobile phone and fled the scene.
Emergency first aid was given before the victim was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged but has been left with life-changing injuries.
Odle-Mcleod was arrested on 13 April and charged three days later.
Det Con Michael Hope, of Thames Valley Police, said the sentence reflected the “appalling violence” inflicted during a “targeted and relentless attack”.
“No one should ever have to endure what he went through,” he said, adding that the force would not tolerate knife violence in the community.
Police thanked members of the public and local businesses for assisting with the investigation and urged anyone with information about knife crime in Reading to contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
