READING School for Boys has named the Royal Berks Charity as its charity of the year.
The school will now work in partnership with the charity to support the healthcare services of the Royal Berkshire Hospital through engagement with charitable activities by students.
From September 2024 students and staff will take part in fundraising and volunteer initiatives in aid of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, with a particular focus on supporting and raising awareness of the neurology departments at both the hospital and the West Berkshire Community Hospital.
The school has also created a fundraising page through JustGiving, with a goal of raising £7,000.
It comes as part of the school’s celebration of its 900th anniversary.
Deputy Headteacher of Reading School Lizzie Ayres said: “We are thrilled to support Royal Berks Charity as our Charity of the Year and this partnership is a fantastic opportunity for our students to continue to demonstrate our school values and ethos, which includes the importance of community service and giving back.
“Our school community is committed to making a positive impact in the local and wider area, and we are excited about the activities planned for the coming year.”
Jo Warrior Charity Director at Royal Berks Charity commented, “We are delighted to have been chosen for this special partnership with Reading School as they celebrate their 900th year.
“Their commitment to supporting our cause will have a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.
“The partnership not only reflects the school’s commitment to making a positive difference in the community but also allows us to expand our reach and provide even greater support within the Trust.
“We look forward to working together to create lasting change.”
