Reading has ranked in third position in the top places in the UK for AI businesses in the newly released AI Business Rankings 2024.

A comprehensive report, compiled by BusinessFinanced.co.uk evaluated 59 locations from across the United Kingdom to identify the best environments for artificial intelligence (AI) enterprises based on factors such as: job vacancies, business, density, online search interest and business survival rate.

Reading’s rise to third spot highlights a growing AI ecosystem in the town.

The report points to a significant increase in AI-related job vacancies and a further increase in the presence of AI businesses.

Reading’s supportive infrastructure and collaborative environment are key contributors to its success, making it an attractive destination for AI enterprises.

While Reading sits in third place, it is noteworthy to compare its performance compared to some of the biggest cities in the country.

Cambridge, which tops the ranking, excels with a balanced performance across various metrics, including the highest concentration of AI-related businesses. Bristol, ranked second, also shows strong AI job vacancy rates and business density.

Reading surpasses major cities like London (ranked 10th), which, despite having the highest number of AI-related businesses, faces intense competition and lower job vacancy rates per person.

Several factors have played a pivotal role in Reading’s high ranking in the research from BusinessFinanced.co.uk.

The town’s strategic focus on technology and innovation, combined with substantial investments in AI research and development, has created fertile ground for AI businesses to flourish.

Reading’s university and research institutions are also major contributors, producing highly skilled graduates who are well-prepared to meet the demands of the AI sector.

Another notable aspect of Reading’s success is its robust five-year business survival rate.

This metric underscores the town’s supportive environment for new ventures, providing AI start-ups with the resources and stability needed to grow and succeed.

Reading’s performance in the AI Business Rankings 2024 positions it as a key player in the UK’s technology landscape.

The town’s ability to combine a strong talent pool with an innovative and collaborative ecosystem sets it apart from other regions.

This recognition not only boosts Reading’s reputation as a technology hub but also attracts further investments and opportunities for growth.
