The owners of a pub in a busy area of Reading have launched a bid for exciting events to go on through to the early hours of the morning.

The Palmer Tavern in East Reading is in a prime location near shops and eateries in Wokingham Road and opposite Palmer Park.

The pub is noted for its all-female team headed by Reading-born landlady Samantha Lane.

The Palmer Tavern is also the first in the UK to be opened under brewery Greene King’s ‘Nest’ concept, which are billed as a collection of ‘wet-led pubs’ providing ‘an excellent experience’ to punters with regular sport and entertainment.

Now, Greene King has submitted a bid for the current range of activities at the pub such as music events, pool tournaments and more to go on until later at night.

The pub company has applied to put on entertainment, and sell alcohol, food and refreshments from 10am until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The application for extended hours and entertainment has been submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

A statutory consultation into the application is currently being held. You can respond by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses is Wednesday, August 14.

The Palmer Tavern currently opens from 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, closing at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Samantha and her team already host karaoke, live bands and DJs, and bingo nights at the pub.

It is understood the grant of the new licence will allow these activities to continue until later at night.
