READING Pride chief engagement officer, Tom Price, has released a statement on the second anniversary of the Forbury attacks.

In a video published on social media, Mr Price, said: “Today marks the second anniversary of the horrific attack that claimed the lives of Joe, James, and David here in Forbury Gardens.

“Today, more than ever, we think of Joe, James, and David and their families, and all those affected by the attacks– they’re always in our hearts, and always in the hearts of the community.”

He continued: “It is important that we always remind ourselves of the importance of the community not just within the LGBTQ+, but within all of Reading.

“Our thoughts and love got out to the families of Joe, James, and David.”

This evening, a ceremony will be held in Forbury Gardens where the families of James Furlong, David Wails, and Joe Ritchie-Bennett will lay flowers and lead a minute’s silence in memorial.

Members of the public are invited to pay their respects at the service.

Leader of Reading Borough Council, Cllr Jason Brock, and Mayor of Reading, Cllr Rached Eden, will address attendees, followed by the lighting up of the Maiwand Lion.

Reading Borough Council is still working with the families of the victims to create a permanent memorial, and is encouraging contributions to the #ReadingTogether Fund, which will be donated towards the creation of the memorial.

Contributions to the fund can be made at: www.crowdfunder.co.uk

Members of the public are invited to take part in the service at Forbury Gardens from 6.50pm.
