Pizza lovers in Reading may want to check their wallets – the town has been named the fifth most expensive place in the UK for a takeaway Margherita pizza, according to new research released ahead of National Pizza Day on 9 February.

The study, conducted by Buzz Bingo, looked at the 50 most populated areas in the UK, analysing prices on Just Eat for a standard 12-inch Margherita from top-rated restaurants. In Reading, the average cost was £14.31 – nearly double that of the cheapest location, Bolton, where a Margherita costs just £7.84. Prices in Reading vary across the town, ranging from £10.50 to £16.99.

Other areas topping the expensive pizza list included Slough (£15.01), Milton Keynes, and Northampton, with London surprisingly not making the top three. In Slough, the priciest option is a £22.99 Margherita at Paradise – Grill & Pizza.

Mark Fletcher, Head of Brand at Buzz Bingo, said: “Pizza is one of the UK’s most loved comfort foods, but prices can vary widely depending on where you are. Northern regions such as Bolton and Huddersfield offer plenty of affordable options, while Southern customers in areas such as Slough and Reading are facing a higher cost to grab a slice.”

The research highlights significant regional differences in takeaway costs, showing that where you live can have a big impact on the price of your favourite comfort food.
