A MAN has been jailed after a serious collision in Reading.
Alexandru Iarca, aged 35, of Alexandra Road, Reading, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison following a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, December 17.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at the same court on 14 July 2025. Once he leaves prison he will be disqualified from driving for three years.
A second man, Cosmin Ion, aged 39, of Granby Court in Reading, pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving on the same date. He has been sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and has been disqualified from driving for two years.
On 25 March 2022 Iarca was driving his BMW 525 and Ion was driving his Audi A5 along Shinfield Road, at over double the speed limit. Iarca collided with two pedestrians who were attempting to cross the road. The victims, two men in their forties, sustained serious, life-changing injuries.
Iarca and Ion were arrested on the same day and charged on 5 July 2023.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Jess Barker, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victims of this collision who now face a life-long recovery. The actions of Iarca fell far below those of a competent, careful driver and show the devastation caused when driving dangerously.
“We would also like to thank all of the witnesses who came to the aid of the victims on the day of the collision and for their help during the investigation.
“There is simply no excuse for speeding, and this case highlights the serious consequences that such selfish and careless driving can have.
“I welcome the sentence imposed by the judge and hope that this case reassures our communities that we will pursue those driving dangerously on our roads.”
