A MAN from Reading has been handed a jail sentence after being convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and affray.
David Clark, aged 30 and of Rembrandt Way, Reading, pleaded guilty to one count of ABH and another of affray, both at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 13 March.
Clark returned to the same court on Wednesday, July 5, where he was sentenced to a total of two years and three months.
On Saturday, February 4, the victim, a woman in her twenties, was attacked in the presence of her young child.
She received several injuries, leaving multiple bruises on her body, and had her clothes ripped during the incident.
She also had a knife held to her throat as Clark made threats to kill her.
Clark was arrested on Sunday, February 4, and charged the following day.
Detective Sergeant Dale Purcell of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit said: “Domestic abuse and violence against women and girls is a force priority for Thames Valley Police.
“Our officers are dedicated to bringing offenders to justice.
“In this case, our Domestic Abuse Unit was able to arrest, charge and remand Clark within 24 hours.
“The officer in the case, Trainee Detective Constable Wolny, worked tirelessly to ensure the evidence was gathered and the victim supported so that Clark was compelled to plead guilty rather than go to trial.
“I would like to praise the victim who had the courage to support this investigation in securing this conviction.
“We would urge anyone who is suffering from Domestic Abuse to please come forward.
“You will be listened to and we will do our best for you and to bring offenders to justice.
“If you are in immediate danger, call us on 999, or you can also report abuse via our website.
