With their third album, Is This All We Are?, Just weeks away, we caught up with Vistas at Reading Festival ahead of their slot on the Festival Republic Stage on Sunday.

Lead singer Prentice said of playing at the festival: “It’s grand- we had a great show on Friday at Leeds, we’re looking forward to it.

“Seeing The Killers last night got us buzzing, so it will be a great way to round off our festival season, especially in such an ideal slot.”

On sharing the bill with acts like The Killers, they said: “It’s really cool, because we grew up going to festivals, so being able to go and see the other bands play is great, especially at such an iconic festival.”

“You still get nervous, but you get that buzz when there’s the noise from 5,000 people inside a tent.”

They still relish the response from the crowd, of course, as Dylan added: “You do relax into it, and it’s nice to see everyone buzzing up on each others’ shoulders, it’s what makes it so enjoyable.”

Prentice continued: “When you take something from the studio to the gig, play it for the first time, it shows which bits need tweaking.

“Things sound heavier or rawer live- sometimes that’s good, as with some of our new stuff.

“Just being in a room or venue playing it does make it feel more raw and rocky, and gives it a bit more energy, too.”

This is true for their new tracks, which the band said previously they would be performing at their set over on Festival Republic.

“Playing the music reflects the mood of the songs, naturally, and subconsciously influences your lyrics also.”

As festival goers themselves, they say they enjoy the rough-and-ready of a British Festival, though Jamie said: “I’ve never done glamping before, but I like the sound of it.

“Whenever we go, I am a bit more happy to be on stage and the perks that brings, but Dylan likes it.”

Dylan agreed: “I quite enjoy camping, but we notice that there’s a few perks for the toilets, getting food, that kind of thing.”

Vistas take to the Festival Republic Stage at 8.50pm.
