Reading FC’s hopes of signing Kyreece Lisbie from League Two side Colchester United have ended in disappointment as the proposed transfer collapsed before the close of the winter window.
The 22-year-old winger, who has been a regular for Colchester this season and caught the eye with his performances in League Two, was heavily linked with a move to Reading in the closing stages of the transfer window. Reading had reportedly made multiple approaches for Lisbie, with one second bid thought to have been accepted by Colchester earlier on Monday ahead of the deadline at 7pm.
However, talks between the clubs and the player’s representatives failed to conclude, leaving Lisbie to remain with Colchester United for the remainder of the campaign. Sources close to the negotiations have suggested that Lisbie was keen to join the Royals, but Colcehster wanted to line up a replacement before they signed off on the deal.
Lisbie, who joined Colchester in early 2025 after spells with Brentford and loan football, has established himself as one of the U’s more potent attacking threats in League Two this season, contributing goals and assists from wide areas.
The collapse of the deal is a blow for Reading, who had been looking to bolster their squad options on the flanks as they seek to improve their fortunes in League One. It also comes amid reported interest from other clubs, with Oxford United among those linked with a late move for the winger.
