Once a a Premier League side, Reading FC has experienced the highs and lows that come with English football.

Yet through every promotion, relegation, and rebuilding phase, the Royals have enjoyed the unwavering support of some surprising names from the world of entertainment and music. From comedians to rock stars, these celebrity fans have stuck by Reading FC, proving that true loyalty isn’t measured by league position.

From comedy to rock music and television, here’s a look at five of the most famous celebrities who proudly back Reading FC

1. Ricky Gervais – Comedian & Actor

One of Britain’s most successful comic talents and a native of Reading, is arguably the club’s most high‑profile celebrity supporter. Best known for co‑creating and starring in The Office, as well as his stand‑up and film work.

Despite not being the most ardent of supporters, Gervais has spoken fondly of his hometown roots: “There’s Reading, Slough, Aldershot, Bracknell, you know I’ve got Didcot, Yateley. Winnersh, Taplow, you know. Because I am my own boss, I can – Burghfield.”

2. Chris Tarrant – Television Presenter

The veteran broadcaster and former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host, grew up in Reading and has long worn his support for the club with pride. A regular at home games over the decades, Tarrant embodies the classic local fan turned national TV personality.

3. Simon Gallup – Musician (The Cure)

Bassist for iconic rock band The Cure, is another celebrated supporter of the Royals. Gallup has been seen publicly showing his allegiance, including flying a Reading flag during their appearances at several music festivals — a proud moment blending his rock credentials with football passion.

4. The Amazons – Rock Band

Reading’s own indie rock band, The Amazons, are proud local supporters of the Royals. Known for their energetic live shows and catchy rock hits, the band often mentions their loyalty to the club in interviews, and have helped to promote the club in various ways, including promoting new kits and playing on the Purple Turtle stage outside of the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

5. Nicholas Hoult – Actor

Internationally acclaimed actor Nicholas Hoult, star of X-Men and The Favourite, grew up in Berkshire and has maintained a fondness for Reading FC. While his acting career has taken him around the world, Hoult has been spotted attending matches and supporting the club online, blending his Hollywood profile with local football loyalty.
