Reading FC Women will not be able to fulfil their place in the Women’s Championship next season, while the women’s academy will also close.
After a late failed takeover bid from a consortium, the Royals will not be able to play in the second tier of English football from next season.
It has yet to be confirmed whether the team will drop down the football pyramid or cease to exist.
It was first reported that the club were facing an uncertain future a couple of weeks back with rumours of just two first-team players being contracted for the 2024/25 campaign.
Following a petition that was signed by more than 4,000 people to try and protect the future of the club, the women’s academy will also close.
The future of the entire club is still in doubt with Dai Yongge yet to accept an offer for the club, despite the club being up for sale for several months.
