Colchester United winger Kyreece Lisbie sparked reaction on social media after sharing a cryptic message on Instagram following the collapse of a late transfer move to Reading FC on deadline day.
The 22-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to the League One club in the final hours of the winter transfer window, with negotiations between the clubs and the player’s representatives progressing into late on Monday afternoon. However, the proposed deal ultimately broke down shortly before the deadline, leaving Lisbie to remain with the League Two side.
Shortly before the transfer window closed at 7pm, Lisbie took to his Instagram account with a post that drew attention from supporters.
Although he did not directly reference the failed move in his message, the tone of the post — widely interpreted by fans as reflective and emotional — prompted speculation over his feelings about the situation. He posted an image on his story which reads: “God: When the time is right, I will make it happen.” Meanwhile he removed his profile picture and any reference to Colchester in his bio.
Supporters of both clubs reacted on social media to the post, with many Colchester fans expressing support for Lisbie and urging him to focus on the rest of the season, while some Reading followers responded with disappointment that the transfer did not materialise.
Lisbie, has been one of Colchester’s standout performers this season, contributing goals and assists from wide areas as the U’s push for higher league positions.
Colchester manager Danny Cowley has previously spoken publicly about Lisbie’s importance to the squad, noting his influence in recent matches and praising his work rate and end product.
With the window now closed, Lisbie will return his attention fully to Colchester’s League Two campaign, where the winger will aim to maintain his strong form and help his side challenge towards the play-off positions.
