Reading FC are set to appoint a new assistant manager for the first-team after Nigel Gibbs left the club last month.
The Royals were poised to appoint Richard Beale, who had left West Brom, and he had verbally agreed for him to join Noel Hunt’s staff.
However, Beale made a late u-turn and decided to reject Reading’s offer and will join Aston Villa as their new under 18s manager instead.
Reading are now turning to a familiar face to return to the club as Scott Marshall is set to join Hunt’s coaching staff.
Reading have made an official approach to Queens Park Rangers where Marshall is currently working in the club’s academy.
Marshall was Reading under 23s boss for three years and first joined the club in September 2017.
He also had a short spell in caretaker charge of the first-team when Paul Clement was sacked by Reading in December 2018 before the club appointed Jose Gomes later that month as new first-team manager.
Since leaving Reading, Marshall has been assistant manager at Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United before he joined QPR last year.
