Reading Football Club’s long ongoing takeover saga has taken another infuriating twist with the emergence of a court case between owner Dai Yongge and former Wycombe Wanderers chairman Rob Couhig.
Couhig attempted to purchase the club from Yongge last year before negotiations broke down after months of talks.
Cohugi submitted a claim in December against Renhe Sports Management, the holding company which Dai Yongge owns Reading FC, claiming more than £12.3m for alleged breaches of exclusivity and loss of potential earnings.
However, Renhe Sports Management have now lodged their own counter claim against Couhig.
Couhig has claimed that Yongge had no intention of selling the club and has alleged that he was also speaking to other potential buyers while in a period of exclusivity with the American businessman.
Meanwhile, Renhe Sports Management says that Mr Dai decided not to sell the club to Mr Couhig due to ‘continual changes’ to the terms of the deal and ‘he no longer had faith in Mr Couhig to guarantee the healthy and stable future of the club.”
Protest group Sell Before We Dai took to social media to comment on the situation and said: “As always, it’s Reading FC fans stuck in the middle. This court case MUST NOT be used as an excuse to delay a sale.
“Can someone DQ the Dais please? Someone save us.
“We are not a lesson to be learnt from. We’re a valuable community asset that means a lot to people.”
