Reading FC captain Andy Yiadom is nearing a return to first-team action having missed more than 10 months with a knee injury.
The right-back played 90 minutes in Reading U21s 3-0 loss against West Ham on Monday night having also played 60 minutes against Sunderland and 45 minutes against Aston Villa.
The 33-year-old has now accumulated enough minutes during his quest to find match fitness for first-team manager Noel Hunt to consider him for selection this weekend when Reading face an away trip to Wigan Athletic.
Since arriving from Barnsley on a free transfer in 2018, Yiadom has racked up more than 200 appearances in a Reading shirt.
He’s been a mainstay in the team throughout his seven-year stint with the Royals and played 32 times in League One last season before he picked up an injury in a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers last April.
Having also missed right-back Kelvin Abrefa through injury for most of the season, Michael Craig has deputised at full-back for the majority of the campaign.
Despite his natural position being in central midfield, Craig has managed to show adaptability by slotting into the back four and has played 30 of Reading’s 32 League One games so far this campaign.
With Yiadom now back for selection, Hunt will have a decision to make whether to revert Craig back into midfield or ease Yiadom back into first-team action for the time being having been away from the pitch for several months.
