New Reading FC recruit Finley Burns picked up an injury in a pre-season battle against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The centre-back, who arrived on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City, was selected in the starting XI to face Thomas Frank’s side.
After making a very bright start to the match against Premier League opposition, his first outing in front of the Select Car Leasing Stadium was brought to an abrupt end.
Burns went down having made a superb block and after receiving treatment, he was unable to continue and was replaced by Michael Stickland. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
22-year-old Burns, who has made one senior appearance for Man City in the League Cup, has had loan spells in both the Championship and League One.
He played three times for Swansea City in the 2021/22 campaign in the Championship before playing much more regular football for Stevenage the next season in League One where he made 37 league appearances.
Last season saw Burns make a loan move to Hull City where he played nine times in the Championship.
