Reading FC are facing a fight to hold onto star player Harvey Knibbs this transfer window with interest from several Championship teams.
Knibbs has yet to feature in any pre-season matches which has led to some speculation about his future, however the club have said that his absence has been due to an injury.
Following Reading’s pre-season outing against Tottenham on Saturday, manager Noel Hunt admitted that there has been transfer interest from clubs in the Championship.
However, he reiterated that the club will not be accepting a bid for Knibbs unless a ‘good’ offer comes in.
Knibbs arrived from Cambridge United on a free transfer in 2023 and has had two superb seasons for the Royals.
In his first season he netted 11 times and claimed six assists in 45 League One appearances as he helped the Royals to fight against relegation.
The 26-year-old then excelled in the 2024/25 season and scored 14 goals in League One, 16 in all competitions, as he finished as the team’s top scorer.
Knibbs still has one year left on his Reading contract which means that the club will receive a fee if he is to leave this transfer window. It is understood that a number of Championship clubs are monitoring his situation including Sheffield United, Oxford United, and Portsmouth among others.
