Hull City loanee Matty Jacob has returned to his parent club for the remainder of the season after suffering a long-term knee injury during his spell at Reading.
The 24-year-old left-back has not featured for the Royals since picking up the injury in November, during Reading’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Carlisle United. Jacob was able to complete the match despite the issue, but subsequent assessments confirmed the problem was related to his knee.
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed the defender will now stay with the Tigers as he continues his rehabilitation.
“The plan is that he will stay with us from January,” Jakirovic told HullLive. “Right now, he is working individually. He has individual sessions with Matt Busby, so we will see how his progress goes, and then he will be with the group from January.
“I think that he got a kick in his knee, it happened on loan at Reading. Everything at the moment is going according to our plan for Matty.”
Reading manager Leam Richardson had previously acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Jacob’s future at the club due to the severity of the injury.
“Initially he was in a brace,” Richardson said. “He finished the game, which was great, fair play to Matty, but at the minute he’s still going through his rehab.”
Jacob made 16 appearances for Reading in all competitions this season, receiving four yellow cards. Last season, he featured eight times for Hull City and scored once, netting in a 3-0 win away at Sheffield United in January.
Reading will now move forward without the defender as he continues his recovery back at the MKM Stadium.
