Reading FC goalkeeper Luke Southwood reportedly has been told by the club that he is free to leave this summer.
According to reports from footballinsider247.com, the 24-year-old shot stopper has been told to find a new club during the transfer window.
Paul Ince’s side are expected to have a busy summer with several first-team players out of contract next month.
However, the Royals’ transfer activity will be limited by the transfer embargo placed upon them by the EFL for breaching profit and sustainability rules which will likely limit them to free transfers and loan signings.
Southwood, who has one year left on his deal at the club, won his place in the Reading side as the number one goalkeeper for a spell last season after taking the place of Rafael Cabral.
After making 25 Championship appearances, Southwood eventually lost his spot in the team after Karl Hein joined on loan from Arsenal, before Orjan Nyland joined on a free transfer to replace the injured Hein.
Southwood seemingly became a peripheral figure towards the end of the season under Ince and now may be on the lookout for a new club.
It is likely that Reading will be in the market for a new goalkeeper if Southwood leaves with Nyland out of contract.
