Reading FC can proudly hold onto a stunning long-standing record following Liverpool’s Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Royals hold the record for the most consecutive wins at the start of a campaign in the English Football League which will stand for yet another year after the Reds’ perfect start came to an end on Saturday.
Liverpool had started their season with five successive wins in the Premier League, but were beaten 2-1 at Selhurst Park courtesy of a 98th minute winning goal from Eddie Nketiah for Palace.
Reading’s record breaking run came at the start of the 1985/86 season under the management of Ian Branfoot.
Having made an exceptional start to the season in the Third Division, now known as League One, Reading were promoted to the Second Division as champions on 94 points.
That team included club legends such as Martin Hicks, Trevor Senior and Michael Gilkes.
