Reading FC are in advanced talks to sign Nottingham Forest winger Josh Bowler.
If completed, the transfer appears to be the first time that Reading have paid a fee for a player since signing Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool back in 2020.
26-year-old Bowler moved to Forest in 2022 but has not been able to break through into their first-team and has been sent out on several loan deals despite his promising talent.
Bowler enjoyed a breakout season for Blackpool in 2021/22 in the Championship where he netted seven goals in 42 and impressed enough for Forest to sign him.
He was immediately loaned out to Greek side Olympiacos for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign , but struggled for game time and only played four times before he was recalled.
He returned to Blackpool on loan and scored two goals in 18 league matches.
Yet another loan stint saw him net five goals in 38 games for Cardiff.
He then had two separate loan spells last season but struggled for game time and success.
He played 10 times for Preston North End in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign before he joined Luton Town, also in the Championship, and played eight times but did not get on the scoresheet.
He is now looking to reignite his career as he looks set to join Reading in the coming weeks.
