Reading FC first-team manager and CEO Joe Jacobson reflected on the club’s summer transfer window after the deadline closed yesterday evening.
The Royals made 12 signings in total, including eight permanent deals and four loan deals.
Despite that, Reading did not make any signings on transfer deadline day, which also saw no outgoings from the club.
Reflecting on a quiet deadline day, Hunt said: “We were waiting for someone who comes in and improves us as a squad as a whole.
“The window is shut, but there are still plenty of players we can look at (free agents). We’ve got to be on our toes and make sure we’re ready if something comes up to swoop.
Jacobson added: “You always want to be available if the right thing comes around. We had some options there, some good options, but we thought nothing was right for us today (yesterday) to improve us.”
The pair also reflected on a busy summer period and the rebuilding job which has been done since Couhig completed his purchase of Reading Football Club.
Jacobson said: “We resigned 10 and brought 12 new players in so it’s been a busy one. We had opportunities to bring players in today (Monday), and it would have been easy to say yes to it.
“Rob (Couhig) has backed us the whole time and has said today ‘whatever you need it’s there for you if the right one becomes available.’
“But we’re in a good place, we’ve got a good squad but it will take time.
“We’ve had to be adaptable and that’s how you have to be in the window. The market progresses differently throughout time.
“We have to play within the rules of the EFL who are making sure we don’t spend out of control and that we’re sustainable and we will always act in that manner.
“It’s been tough and hopefully that doesn’t last forever because at the start every contract we offered out had to be approved by them, but thankfully now we think they’re on 0ur side and trust us to act accordingly.”
Hunt added: “We’ve done some really good business. It’s been a process and we’ve had to do a lot of resignings because we had so many out of contract. It’s been a long process, it’s been a unique situation from where we’ve had to build from.
“We’ve got decent depth in the squad.”
