Reading FC fans are planning to unveil a flag as a ‘symbol of respect’ for manager Ruben Selles after supporters raised more than £2000.

Having had to face the turmoil off the pitch under the ownership of Dai Yongge which has seen multiple points deductions, wages not being paid on time and uncertainty over the future of the club, the Royals fans are keen to show their admiration for the manager.

Reading are still fighting for League One survival and currently sit six points above the relegation zone heading into Saturday’s match with Lincoln City with just five games left to play.

Having set up a crowdfunding page, Reading fans managed to raise £2,200 in less than a month which will go towards purchasing a 40 ft x 40ft flag of the boss which will be unfurled at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Reading fan Ricky Ezard said: “Thanks again for everyone that has contributed to the creation of this flag.

“I just wanted to touch on why we’re creating this flag. This flag is intended as a symbol of respect for our manager, who has stood by the club through its recent challenges.

“His unwavering dedication, hard work, and continued support for the players embody the spirit of our club.

“I’m excited to share one of the designs we’ve received, but it still requires some tweaks.

“For instance, we need to adjust the spacing of the wording behind his head to ensure it’s clear that it consists of two words. We believe the image of him is strong, and it helps conveys the gravity of the situation we face at this time.

“We’re eager to gather feedback from fans over the next 24 hours to relay to the designers.

“Whilst we do appreciate everyone’s feedback, it’s important to note that it might not be possible to incorporate all suggestions.

“We’ll carefully review suggestions and look to incorporate them within the realm of design possibilities and abilities.

“Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and dedication. We’ll update again soon.”

After Saturday’s clash with Lincoln, Reading have just one more home match which is against Blackpool on the final day of the season on Saturday, April 27 (12.30pm kick-off).
