READING FC are expecting to be hit with another points deduction from the English Football League (EFL) due to issues relating to late payments to HMRC.

The Royals have already been deducted four points this season for failing to pay wages on time in 202. They have been deducted 16 points in total so far under the ownership of Dai Yongge who took control of the club in 2017.

A new two point deduction will take the total of points taken away from the team to 18 under Dai Yongge’s reign.

Ruben Selles’ side has shown strong form across the last couple of months and have managed to push themselves up to 16th in the table, however a new deduction would see them move closer towards the relegation places again.

It is believed that the owner has been late with paying HMRC bills for more than 100 days over the course of the last year which is over the maximum of 80 days in the EFL regulations.

Reading have just 11 League One games remaining to try and secure their status in the division.

Next up for the team is an away trip to bottom of the table Carlisle United on Saturday which will see more than 1,300 Royals fans make the trip up north to support their side.

The EFL has been contacted for comment.
