Reading FC defender Tyler Bindon has been called up to represent New Zealand at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The New Zealand under 23s squad will make their way to France next week to prepare for the Olympics Games.
Bindon impressed throughout last season having signed for the Royals on a free transfer from Los Angeles FC.
He broke his way into the first team after some outstanding performances in the EFL Trophy and ended up making 40 appearances, and scored twice, in League One last season as Ruben Selles’ side avoided relegation.
The 19-year-old already has 10 international caps to his name having recently helped New Zealand as they won the OFC Nations Cup.
New Zealand will begin their Olympic campaign on Wednesday, July 24 against Guinea.
They then take on the United States in Marseille on Saturday, July 27 and then play their final group game against Thierry Henry’s France side on Tuesday, July 30, also in Marseille.
A statement from Reading FC said: “Everyone at the club would like to wish the very best to Tyler, who follows in his Mother Jenny’s footsteps, having represented New Zealand in the football tournament at London 2012.”
