Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has spoken about his frustration about a ‘misunderstanding; between the club and the EFL relating to transfers.
After the club sold winger Femi Azeez to Championship side Millwall last week, Selles says that he was assured that he would be able to acquire a replacement, however that situation has now changed.
The Royals are still under a transfer embargo, but it had previously been communicated to Selles that the club would be able to bring in either a loan or a free agent after Azeez’s departure for around £1million.
“I got assured that if I let Femi go, and it was my decision also, then we could have a replacement immediately.
“It was a misunderstanding with the people communicating with the EFL and that was not effectively true.
“That happened and now we cannot use that money, even if it is a free player.
“It’s not an EFL problem, it’s an internal problem. Somebody misunderstood the information, that’s why I’m not happy with that.”
When asked about the possibility of bringing players in before the end of the transfer window, which shuts tomorrow, Selles said: “I’ve got a list of players, but it’s difficult. “Situations change and some of the players that we had in our list before are already playing for another club and some of them are still available.
“The reality is that if it (the takeover) happens before the transfer window closes then we need to see if we can make something effective.
“Or if it happens after then we need to see if there are free agents we can sign outside of the transfer window or we need to wait until January and keep pushing everyone together.”
