AN AGM will help raise funds for a charity seeking to protect historic buildings.

Members of the Reading Civic Society are invited to the gathering on Saturday, March 16.

Starting at 2pm, the event will elect officers, committee members, and trustees, as well as approving reports and accounts.

There will be updates on activities from the past year, including its blue plaque project, the future of the gaol, and a look ahead at the forthcoming Look Draw Build@Reading Station contest for schools.

Afterwards, there will be a presentation from Alastair Dick-Cleland about the work of the Landmark Trust, a building preservation charity which restores castles, forts, towers and cottages for self-catering breaks.

It will include details of some of the challenges it faces, with fundraising and restoring buildings.

Among its projects is applying for grants to help protect Mavisbank House, near Edinburgh, and will work with the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust to establish a Landmark unit in one of the Towers of Wentworth Woodhouse.

Entry to the event is free, but organisers request a donation of at least £5, which will go to The Landmark Trust. There will also be a bookstall.

It will take place in The Garden Hall of Watlington House, with the entrance off South Street.
