CHRISTIANS from across Reading came together at the start of the month to mark the annual World Day of Prayer.
Using resources prepared by Christian women from Palestine, the events held in Reading and Caversham were just two among thousands held in 146 countries.
The Palestinians chose the olive tree as their symbol, as it flourishes in the Middle Eastern climate, and can last for more than 1,000 years.
Mike Penny, chair of Christians Together in Reading, said: “The service was based around three stories from three Palestinian women. The first was a story of resilience, the second a story of truth-telling, and the third a story of flourishing.
“And the service ended with deep and devotional prayers not only for peace in the world, but especially for peace in Palestine.”
A service was held on the morning of Friday, March 1 at Reading Central Salavtion Army, attended by 60 people, while the evening service was held at St John’s Church in Caversham, and attended by 30 people.
