A CARE home in Reading has put their fundraising efforts into high gear in aid of children in hospital ahead of the festive season.

Residents and staff at Shinfield View were joined by local supporters in cycling a collective four-and-a-half thousand miles as part of a challenge to raise money for charity.

They were joined by members of Thames Valley Triathlon Club, 1st Shinfield (St Mary’s) Scout Group, and the Reading FC Community Trust, collectively raising more than £1,480.

The money will be used to by Christmas presents for children spending the festive period in Southampton Children’s Hospital.

Residents at the home will also take part in wrapping and delivering the gifts to the children.

Participants not only surpassed their distance goal of 4,212 miles, but have also more than doubled their original fundraising target of £600.
