A PARTNERSHIP between Reading Buses and one of its optimisation providers is set to continue following a successful year-long trial period.

CitySwift, a performance optimisation company, has announced it will extend its provision of services to the public transport organisation.

It follows a year-long trial period which the company says saw “year-on-year” growth through the use of a dedicated platform.

CitySwift’s platform will now be rolled out to the entire Reading Buses network after it saw increased bus punctuality and a growth in passenger use of the services, alongside improved insights into the operation of services and improvements to team productivity.

Since implementing CitySwift performance optimisation platform in 2023, Reading Buses has seen improvements of 9.1% and 14.2% in punctuality on two of the trial corridors.

Founded in 2016 by Brian O’Rourke and Alan Farrelly, CitySwift’s performance optimisation platform gives operators and transport authorities insights, recommendations, and predictions, supporting them in the delivery of efficient, reliable and in-demand services.

CitySwift uses intelligent data processing to optimise more than 1 billion passenger trips across its clients yearly, and removes obstacles to accessing transportation data, empowering teams with performance insights.

CitySwift-powered performance improvements benefit aim to drivers, passengers, operators, and cities more broadly, and the company has announced partnerships with Transport for Greater Manchester, National Express, Transport North East, and Transdev Blazefield.

“CitySwift empowers private operators, such as Reading Buses, and public transport authorities to achieve unparalleled efficiency by leveraging advanced analytics, simulations, and optimisations.”

Brian O’Rourke, CEO and co-founder of CitySwift, said “Following last year’s strong performance, we are delighted to extend our partnership with Reading Buses, supporting the operator’s commitment to improving bus services and furthering our goal of making public transport the mode of choice for all.”

Gemma Redson, Commercial Manager at Reading Buses, said on the announcement: “We are thrilled to extend our relationship with CitySwift, and to be leading the way in the UK in the application of data and insights, which are essential to providing our customers with an efficient and cost-effective bus service.

“Our experienced schedulers and network planners are able respond decisively through using CitySwift’s analytics and optimisation tools, increasing their efficiency and decreasing late running for customers who depend on our bus services.”
