READING Borough Council is lending its support to a national innitiative to help raise awareness on suicide prevention.
The council is marking World Suicide Prevention Day, which takes place on September 10 each year, by making resources available to those who need them.
Those facing suicidal thoughts can seek advice from the council’s website, which also signposts a number of othe services which help them as well as those affected by suicide.
It is also encouraging safe and supportive conversations around suicide prevention among staff.
The council has also begun developing new training and guidance for staff.
Ruth McEwan, Lead Councillor for Public Health and Education, said: “Suicide is a confronting subject and yet sadly many of us have been touched by it in some way.
“Suicide is a community issue, which requires a community response. That’s why we have support and guidance for our residents and staff to have important conversations and spot the signs of someone who maybe having suicidal thoughts.”
