THE DING has some zing when it comes to rating your platefuls.
A new survey has put Reading in the top 10 towns and cities for foodies.
Women-only tour company Solo Female Travelers Tours analysed data from TripAdvisor, including the number of Michelin star establishments, vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants.
This was then turned into marks out of 10 for each category, based on the number of establishments, which determined the ranking.
Unsurprisingly, London took top spot with a score of 83.56. Scottish capital Edinburgh was next with 61.26. Brighton was third with 55.55.
Reading came in ninth with a score of 43.34, ahead of Leeds with 41.81, but behind Cardiff on 44.69.
Also in the top 10 were Newcastle, Plymouth, Bristol, and Belfast.
A spokesperson from Solo Female Travelers Tours said Reading’s high score came from its vegan-friendly restaurants, in which it rated 7.33.
“It’s interesting to see which UK cities make the ranking, particularly with only a selection of the most populated cities across the nation making an appearance. The findings reflect the best locations for foodies to live, as well as suggesting the cities to visit that can make a fun day out,” they said.
“However, the jump between London’s score of 83.56 and Edinburgh’s score of 61.26 is rather significant, despite both cities taking the top two places; it suggests that London is the ultimate city for foodies and won’t be stripped of its title anytime soon.”
