READING’S food bank is looking to make up festive parcels and is appealing for donations.
Based in Boulton Road, but with collection points in supermarkets and churches across the town, ReadiFood is preparing the gifts for people who would otherwise face a miserable Christmas.
It is asking for donations of seasonal goodies that are all within their use-by date, and in new, unopened packaging.
Its shopping list includes mince pies, boxes or tins of biscuits, savoury crackers, chocolate selection boxes, large tinned meat, tinned salmon, stuffing mixes, cranberry sauce, custard, tins of vegetables, tinned potatoes, crisps, and peanuts.
Donations of Christmas crackers – the ones with the mottos, hats and gifts – are also welcomed.
However, ReadiFood does not want donations of brandy sauce, gravy, Christmas cake or puddings. In most cases, it either cannot give them to clients or they have plenty of donations already.
The closing date for donations is Friday, December 15. This gives the charity enough time to create the parcels and donate them ahead of December 25.
