Team-mates of Rams Rugby Football Club’s under-9s player Harry Mills have raised almost £30,000 for charity after having their heads shaved to support the brave youngster in his battle with bone cancer.
Harry was recently diagnosed with the rare condition in his leg, and is set to embark on an intense chemotherapy course.
In a fantastic show of team spirit, 12 of his under-9 teammates shaved their heads – and have raised more than £28,000 for the Young Lives Against Cancer charity.
Harry’s dad, Andy, was blown away by the togetherness shown by the youngsters.
Writing on the JustGiving page, he said: “The great Shaveathon was a huge success.
“Thank you to all of Harry’s mates who took part. It means so much to him, and is a great show of strength that they will all be with him throughout his treatment.
“Thank you again to everyone who has donated. We are completely overwhelmed by the number of people this has reached. You have all done a truly wonderful thing.”
Byron Geldard from the charity, said: “Harry and his friends have done an amazing job in smashing their initial target of £10,000. It’s great to see his friends and family coming together to support Harry and his family.
