FANS’ favourite Zach Clow is hoping to keep putting smiles on Rams supporters’ faces having completed his switch from London Scottish, admitting there is nothing like playing in front of the Old Bath Road faithful.
The former Cardiff Metropolitan University ace made an instant after joining on loan last season, scoring a debut hat-trick for the Titans at Richmond Saxons .
He went onto grab six first-team tries in eight National One appearances, including a stunning double under the Friday Night Lights against Chinnor.
“It’s a great feeling to be involved, class to be with the squad and now I just want to kick on from last year both as a player and getting involved with a bit of coaching,” said Clow.
“When I came in as a new player the atmosphere in the camp allowed me to show what I could do and most importantly help the team out as much as possible, and that made it such an easy decision to come back.
“To get the chance to stay was as exciting as to get my first cap and that excitement is definitely still there.”
He continued: “I’ve got so many good memories from last season, scoring a few tries was nice but just sharing the field with the boys was so good.
“I love to put on a show and hopefully my character comes across, a celebration adds to that!”
Having represented England Counties at Under 18 level and played for RGC in the Welsh Premiership, Clow admitted he’s been given an insightful upbringing in the game, while also acknowledging how he can keep improving.
He continued: “Playing in Wales was a tough old christening as an 18-year-old, you’ve got some hardened old boys from the likes of Pontypool and it’s physical, quick, and some of the places you have to go are pretty tough.
“ But it builds a bit of character and helps to prepare you for some of the harder places we go to (in National One).
“Then going through Uni and playing some of the BUCS stuff was a huge thing, big crowds, some games live-streamed, it’s interesting.
“Every season you go into with new goals and this time I want to improve my kicking game, become more of a threat with that to the point of being like a 10 with my kicking.
“I also want to keep working on the speed side of things, the acceleration and then finishing off a lot more tries and putting points on the board.”
Aiming to be among the top try-scorers both at Rams and in the division this season, Clow saved his final words to praise the support the team receive.
He continued: “The crowd interaction helps a lot with my mindset and I feed off it, I always want to put on a bit of a show since the day I started playing rugby.
“When Old Bath Road gets loud there’s nothing like it and I’m getting goosebumps just talking about it. They get behind the boys, they’re the 16th man and hopefully it continues because the numbers at the end of last season were huge both home and away.
“(Even in defeat) the way the Ramily came to Sale it made such a difference, you make a break and you just hear them, the roar, and the smiling faces, it’s like nothing else.”
