A THEATRE in Reading is setting the stage for it’s latest show and the first of 2024.
Progress Theatre is gearing up for its latest production, Mike Bartlett’s Albion, a retelling of the theatrical classic The Cherry Orchard, by Anton Chekhov.
It follows a woman grappling with the death of her son in the grounds of a once-grand but run-down country garden.
She’s drawn into ruminations on the past, including a re-evaluation of her family and friendly relationships, as everyone around her looks to the future.
Clashes ensue about how to dispose of her son’s ashes as each of the residents of her village bring their own ideas and agendas.
The garden transforms around them as the rains come and each must make a choice to adapt or admit defeat.
Albion was chosen as The Telegraph’s Play of the Year following a sell-out run in 2017, and was picked up for a 31-date run at the Almeida in 2020.
Albion is showing at Progress Theatre, The Mount, from Monday, January 29, until Saturday, February 3.
Progress features a number of accessible show dates, including socially distanced performances.
Relaxed performances are adapted to make provisions for families with young children and people with physical or special needs.
